L’Orfeo – 5th May – 6th May 2017

The opera, L’Ofreo, is set to be performed at The Arriaga Theatre. Originally composed by Claudio Giovanni Monteverdi, the opera is based on a poem by Alessandro Striggio telling the story of Orpheus as he battles to save Eurydice from hell. The heart wrenching tale was first performed in the early 17th century and is still a well-loved opera to this day!

Fant Fantastic Film Festival – 5th May – 12th May 2017

The 23rd edition of the festival is set to return to Bilbao, bringing with it a range of exciting films for you to discover. Fant En Corto will screen 21 productions, 11 of which would have come from Basque producers, which will be in with a chance of winning 3,000 euros for the Best Short Film. There will also be several other brilliant films on show, alongside awards and a closing gala. There will certainly be something for everyone to enjoy!

Geolodía 2017 –7th May 2017

Discover the architecture of Bilbao as this tour explores the ornamental rocks used in the façades of Bilbao’s most emblematic buildings, finishing with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Biscay. At the museum you can discover other uses for the local rock, and which have changed the lives of the settlers of Biscay from Prehistoric times to the Middle-Ages.

Soka – 9th May – 10th May 2017

What would you do if everyone thought you were a murderer? Soka follows the tale of Igor, a PE teacher who’s repudiated by everyone in the town when he discovers one of his 11 year old students hung with a training rope. He then embarks on a quest that blurs the lines between guilt and responsibility. The Arriaga Theatre is proud to present the performance as part of the Nuevas Dramaturgias project, promoting new drama writings.

The Cartographer – 11th May – 14th May 2017

The Arriaga Theatre is presenting the play El Cartógrafo, following the tale of Blanca as she follows a legend whilst finding herself. The cartographer has a dream to draw a map of the world, but no longer being able to support himself, he enlists the help of Blanca who learns that the search will be more significant to her than she initially thought. A wonderful performance for anyone who loves tales of self-discovery!

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra & Juanjo Mena – 16th May 2017

The Arriaga Theatre is going to be bursting with beautiful classical music on 16th May as The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Juanjo Mena, teams up with pianist Stephen Hough to perform pieces by Vaughan Williams, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Edward Elgar. As the final event in the tour, this night will be a true treat for all lovers of the orchestra.

Ópera Andrea Chénier – 20th May – 29th May 2017

El Palacio de Congresos y De La Música is presenting Andrea Chénier this May. The four act verismo opera follows the story of the eponymous character, Andrea Chénier, as he falls in love with the noble Maddelena, leading to her giving her life so that she could be with him forever. Loosely based on the life of French poet André Chenier, this opera tells the story of love, and how even death can’t stop it.

The Guardian of Tales – 27th May – 29th May 2017

Follow the tale of childhood friends, Ariadna and Horacio, as they wake up the Guardian of Tales as they enter a library, and end up discovering the world inside the Book of All Tales. All their dreams come true as they meet fairy tale favourites such as Snow White, Pinocchio, and Sleeping Beauty. The only problem: how do they get back to their own world? This will be a wonderful opera that the whole family can enjoy at The Arriaga Theatre.

Guns N’ Roses – 30th May 2017

Legendary hard rock band, Guns N’ Roses, are bringing their Not In This Lifetime to the San Mamés Stadium this month! The tour will mark the first time that Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan have performed together since their Use Your Illusion Tour in 1993, making this an unmissable performance for all fans of the iconic trio. Mark Lanegan,

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown will be opening the show, warming up the crown before all the excitement!
