What’s on in Bilbao this August 2018

August is the month in full swing with sunny days, travellers and locals enjoying what the city has to offer during the summer – lots of cultural and music events going on, with Bilbao’s grandest fiesta being the highlight of the month. Have a look at what’s happening in Bilbao throughout August.


Music & Culture

La Cubana, "Adiós Arturo": 11th August – 9th September
A new comedy show is ready to take the stage of Arriaga theatre, starting in August.
Adiós Arturo play is meant to bring lots of smiles and laughter for the audience, so bring your kids, family and friends to enjoy a good play. Humour and surprise are two characteristic elements always brought along in their plays, by La Cubana team.

"The Adams Family", A Broadway musical comedy: 16th August – 2nd September
Euskal Duna is hosting this one of a kind musical shows, based on the famous Adam Family story.
With a few representations scheduled for August and September, the musical is expecting a big audience and great success.

"Hand Brake": 17th – 28th August
Another comedy play is coming up in August at Euskalduna. Under the direction of Celso Cleto, the show will feature two of the most loved actors on the theatrical scene - Josu Ormaetxe and Silvia Espigado.

"Chichinabo Cabaret": 30th August – 6th September
As the title suggest, a cabaret show will take the stage starting on the 30th of August. Expect an ironic, mental Japanese flavoured, chaotic comedy to unfold in front of the audience and The Theater Laboratory of Pabellón 6 are the ones performing this great show.

BalletCollective New York, "Works & Process Performance": 21st – 22nd August
BalletCollective is a non-for-profit arts collaboration of dancers, choreographers and composers, gathered to create and promote new ballet-based works, through different artistic methods.

The Real McKenzies concert: 16th August
The Canadian Celtic punk band will have a live performance on the 16th of August, at Jaias - Portugalete.

Eva Ayllón concert: 2nd August
The Afro-Peruvian singer will perform in Bilbao on the 2nd of August, at Sala Santana 27.
Known as the "Queen of Lando", Eva's music is a blend of different genres of Peruvian music – festejo, vals and lando.

Events & Workshops

Aste Nagusia 2018, Bilbao festivities: 18th – 26th August
The festival has been carrying its tradition for over 3 decades, starting off from bulls races, theatre plays and folklore shows to become now what it is to be the most awaited for time of the year: nine days of great concerts, cultural and artistic shows, cooking contests, great fireworks and sports to rejoice in a great atmosphere of fun and good mood. The Old Quarter of the city will be the core of happenings, whilst the atmosphere and festivities will spread across the entire city.

Joana Vasconcelos I´m your mirror: 29th Jun – 11th Nov
Guggenheim Museum is the place to host this contemporary sculpture & installations exhibition created by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos. She has used materials from everyday life, such as mirrors, tiles, household appliances, coins or even urinals to create massive pieces of artwork inspired by the Portuguese culture.

Milonga, by Corazón Encadenado: 4th – 5th August
Every first Saturday of every month, a milonga workshop organised by Corazon Encadenado is taking place in Bilbao, at Edificio Flex.
