What's on in Bilbao this December 2018

Winter holiday month in Bilbao is bursting with cultural events and great music to end the year with. There are a lot of classical favorites on show this month, addressed to both the adults and children. Have a look at what’s happening in Bilbao throughout December.

Fidelio: 3rd December
L W Beethoven's only opera is staging at the Euskalduna Auditorium on the 3rd of December.

Bilbao Symphony Orchestra – Concert for violin and orchestra: 13th – 14th December
Baiba Skirede will be the solo violin playing during this concert, accompanied by Bilbao's Symphony Orchestra, covering R Schumann, B Britten and E Lalo works.

The Nutcracker: 22nd December
Christmas getting close, it's time for the classical plays and world-famous performers to get on stage.
If you haven't got the chance to view the Moscow State ballet, there's your chance to watch them at the Auditorium on the 22nd of December, playing one of the most well-known themes by Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker.

The Christmas Great Concert: 25th December
For a different Christmas Day, take your family out for the festive Christmas concert performed by the Grand Symphonic Orchestra, on the 25th evening. Famous Beethoven and Tchaikovsky compositions will enchant the auditorium.

Beauty and the beast - Musical: 26th December
Children are not to be forgotten this festive season. A few good shows are staging throughout December and Disney's Beauty and The Beast is our pick for the little ones. A great musical play will delight the spectators and bring them lots of joy and smiles.

Carmina Burana: 6th – 9th December
One of the most popular pieces of music of our times, Carmina Burana is being translated into Carl's Orff powerful music during his performance that combines live music accompanied by amazing visuals on stage. Vocal soloists, chorus and orchestra, costumes, lighting, video and image design will all combine into a show directed by La Fura dels Baus, to remember.

Queen Tribute show: 30th December

Hello 2019! – 31st December 2018 – 1st January 2019

Durango Fair: 5th – 9th December
The biggest showcase of the Basque culture will open its gate on the 5th of December. From film soundtrack workshop, discover theatre from the inside and beyond workshop and roundtables on sociological analysis to music records releases and books presentations, a meeting place for speakers as well, the fair will be bursting with local culture and it is the place to discover it along full five days.

Santo Tomás Fair: 21st December
The beginning of Christmas celebrations is marked with Santo Tomas fair, a Basque traditional fair that has been going on for over 65 years. Local produces are sold and festive food and drinks such as talo con chorizo and txakoli will accompany the celebration, on traditional sounds of txalaparta and trikitixa from morning till late in the evening. The Arenal and the Plaza Nueva will be the core places of the event.
